Noisy Boise

Sometimes I think that I'm bigger than the sound.

About Me
Ask away

#BenFolds opened his #Boise show with a cover of #BuilttoSpill #TwinFalls. The people around me seemed to have no freakin’ idea what a magical moment it was.

Savoy Motel hails from good ol’ Tennessee. They opened for The Dandys. A-mazing. Picked up their LP before street date- woo! Make sure you check it out- release date is 10/21. THEY ARE A BAND WORTH SPENDING YOUR MONEY ON. Straight up fuckin rock ‘n roll.

Got to see The Dandy Warhols not once but twice (09/30 and 10/03) while I was home visiting!! Fuck yeah! These photos are from their St. Pete show at the State Theater. Ha! We should have bought tickets to all their Florida shows.

The set lists were rad. The St. Pete show was amazing but their Orlando show may be my #1 show for 2016. Watch ouuuut.

Halloween Horror Nights was a success! Texas Chain Saw Massacre was the best house of the night- hands down. This was a fourth one in a row and I couldn’t ask for better company! Woo!

This song resonates with me so much. It is without a doubt my favorite song of 2016. And definitely one of my favorite Dandys songs. Fuck.

This album is quickly becoming a favorite of 2016. Go give your local record store all yo’ money.

It has been a real good summer. Got to see so many of my favorite bands. I am pretty sure I died and went to heaven when I saw Band of Horses. I have been a fan for a long, long time and it was truly a dream come true. Saw The Cure for the third and fourth time. Beach House was absolutely dreamy. Saw Silversun Pickups do an acoustic set at the local record store. Also got high fives on their way out. Saw them again the same night.

Going home next Wednesday. I. Can. Not. Wait. The Dandy Warhols are on my list- twice: The Social in Orlando and The State Theater in Tampa. Gonna be a blast. I didn’t realize it has been so long since I have posted. The old Tumblr app and my old phone were not friends so it never worked. I have installed it on my new phone so I plan to start posting again. I have been writing some movie reviews and doing a movie podcast for a site my friend Jon started so that has been filling some of my time.

This is a little late but whatevs. While I was home for my annual visit, my friend and I got to see Twin Shadow at one of my favorite venues, The Social. It is the best show I have seen all year. It was a non-stop dance party. I thought I was gonna die from heat exhaustion. Okay, I’m being a little exaggerative. But seriously, the set list, the stage set-up, everything was on point.

My very favorite musician put together a mixtape of his favorite New Order songs. New Order is also a favorite band of mine. I am a little sad that Age of Consent didn’t make his list. I would have definitely included it in mine. Otherwise- pure magic!

There are two sides to every conflict, and within each are intricacies and viewpoints that can cause either faction to erupt if the scales are tipped. The stakes for such a quarrel have rarely been higher than in the Cold War, a battle consisting of dueling ideologies rather than all-out warfare, one where a single word or gesture from a side could have unimaginable ripple effects. Despite the eventual outcome being apparent, Steven Spielberg rightfully found this sort of articulated combat to be ripe for drama in his latest film, Bridge of Spies.

Loosely based on a true story — with the timeline greatly condensed and more tightly intertwined — the script from Matt Charman, Ethan Coen and Joel Coen is a snappy, propulsive account of James B. Donovan (Tom Hanks), an unblemished Brooklyn lawyer who becomes involved in defending a suspected KGB agent (Mark Rylance). It shifts from a courtroom drama — although, much like the Cold War, the most compelling of conversations take place behind closed doors — to an international espionage thriller as Donovan is then sent by the CIA to a divided Berlin in order to negotiate an exchange of prisoners.

From the first moment we meet Hanks, he feels more than destined for the role, negotiating an insurance claim with metaphor after metaphor in a captivating demeanor only someone of his likability could pull off so effortlessly. This is perhaps the most morally upright character in cinema since the days of Jimmy Stewart, though one wishes the fairly single-minded script fostered more of an emotional connection with his experience as a stranger in a strange land — both in his home country and in Berlin.
